The Streaming Guide to Cataloging Remote Access Multimedia: A How-to Virtual Manual for Catalogers is an open access, self-paced manual created by Marielle Veve, adjunct faculty at the University of Tennessee School of Information Sciences. It is peer-reviewed.
The main purpose of this guide is to provide visual guidance in the procedures of cataloging remote access multimedia* with the assistance of instructional multimedia techniques (such as animated slides, screen captures, video, audio, and captions). No interactivity has been integrated to avoid copyright infringements.
The guide was created given the rising need among catalogers, information students, and school library media specialists to understand the complexities of multimedia cataloging without having to rely on text-only explanations, which can sometimes be difficult to understand.
The contents of this guide are static and not intended to change over time. Recommendations made follow guidelines stated in AACR2r, OCLC, OLAC and LC for describing remote electronic and integrating resources up to the year 2010. RDA guidelines are not integrated.
*Remote access multimedia can be defined as content that integrates different media formats and has no physical carrier. It can only be accessed online through a network connection.
